It started as a joke, but Ben Gladwell, Cardinals player famed for his long dark locks, has agreed that if we raise £500 towards the British Heart Foundation, he'll have his head shaved on the last game of the season! Now Ben Firman has also agreed to join in with the head shaving as an added incentive to raise lots of money for a very good cause! Ipswich Cardinals have been playing American Football since January 1986, as a result of an advert placed in the local paper by two enthusiasts. Over 120 young men turned up to the first training sessions, however this decreased rapidly as it became known that the game is a lot tougher than it looks on TV! The team is currently playing in BAFL Division 1 and had a highly successful 2007 season, playing against Farnham Knights in the Division 1 Final at Don Valley Stadium. The Cardinals has a thriving Youth Development Squad which is currently recruiting players aged 15-18, and are always open to new members in the Senior Squad (over 18 only). Would you like to have a go? Think you've got what it takes? We train every non-match Sunday at Northgate International Sports Centre in Ipswich from 1100hrs to 1400hrs.
