Cardinals Next Fixture - At Solent Thrashers - Charity Game

Cardinals News - 5th September 2018

After making the Division 2 Play Offs Quarter Final, (at Hertfordshire Cheetahs 12th August - 14-44 L), the Ipswich Cardinals season is not quite finished. The Cardinals travel to Southampton to take on Division 1 Semi Finalists the Solent Thrashers for a Charity Game on Saturday 29th September (2:00pm kick off).

A full days entertainment is planned with gates opening at 10:00am for all to make this a joyous day out with the family, with the American Football game, Live Music, Arts & Crafts, Experiences, Raffles, Food & Drink, Competitions and much more. All proceeds from the event will be in aid of the ‘Lee Bonsall Memorial Fund'.

The feature event on the day will be ‘THE CHRISTOPHER BUTCHER MEMORIAL GAME’ between the Solent Thrashers and Ipswich Cardinals which will be kicking off at 2:00pm.

A little background on the charity: The Lee Bonsall Memorial Fund was set up to help local charities and other veterans in the memory of Lee following his tragic death after his struggles with PTSD. This was a charity that was close to the heart of a member of both the Cardinals and Thrashers family Captain Christopher Butcher, whom served in the Royal Artillery. In late 2017 the Thrashers and Cardinals families were rocked when we sadly lost Christopher. Chris was a hero who proudly served his country and it is our honour to raise money for a cause that meant so much to him.

Admission will be FREE, Parking on site is £2.00, programmes £3.00. All funds raised on the day will be donated. This event is close to the hearts of both the teams involved and any donations will be greatly received and appreciated.

Even though it is a charity event both sides will be aiming to do their utmost to win. So the game will be big test for the Cardinals team as the Thrashers finished the regular season with a 8-1 record, SFC 1 Central Champions, and were very strong all season. The Cardinals meanwhile tasted play off football for the first time since 2011 and finished with a 6-2 record, second in the SFC 2 East. This fixture will certainly be no easy task for the visitors, however the Cardinals will be fired up and will be looking to bring back the win with them. Whatever the result raising much needed funds for a very worthwhile charity will be the main winner of the day.
